About

Sustainable fuels such as biofuels, hydrogen, ammonia, e-fuels, and e-methane, are gaining attention as potential solutions towards decarbonization in various sectors, including transportation (aviation, shipping, and automotive), as well as residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.

This ministerial meeting, being held for the first time, aims to promote the production and utilization of sustainable fuels as key components in achieving carbon neutrality. In collaboration with relevant countries and international organizations, it seeks to enhance global momentum on sustainable fuels, including with a view to COP30 scheduled for November 2025.

This meeting will be co-hosted by Japan and Brazil, as a part of initiative based on the Initiative for Sustainable Fuels and Mobility (ISFM) which was launched during the Japan-Brazil summit in May 2024, and aims to realize carbon neutrality in partnership with the international community.
